Job Summary:
The Nuclear Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of a nuclear facility by implementing and enforcing security protocols and procedures. This role requires a highly dedicated and detail-oriented individual capable of maintaining a high level of vigilance to identify and mitigate potential security threats. The Nuclear Security Officer works closely with the security team to safeguard the personnel, physical assets, and sensitive information of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor and control access points to the nuclear facility, including checking identification, verifying credentials, and conducting thorough searches as necessary.
2. Patrol designated areas within the facility to detect and prevent unauthorized access, suspicious activities, and hazards.
3. Operate and monitor security equipment, such as CCTV cameras, alarms, and access control systems, to ensure proper functioning and promptly respond to any anomalies or malfunctions.
4. Conduct regular inspections of security equipment and report any issues or deficiencies to the Security Supervisor.
5. Collaborate with the security team to develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, contingency plans, and crisis management protocols.
6. Respond promptly to security incidents, including breaches, alarms, and emergencies, and take appropriate action to resolve the situation while maintaining professionalism and composure.
7. Maintain accurate and detailed logs, reports, and incident records related to security activities, ensuring all information is recorded in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
8. Stay updated on the latest security trends, technologies, and regulations relevant to the nuclear industry, and actively participate in training programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
9. Assist in the investigation of security incidents, collect evidence, and liaise with law enforcement agencies, if required.
10. Provide support during safety drills, exercises, and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of security measures and identify areas for improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional relevant certifications or training in law enforcement, security, or criminal justice are highly desirable.
2. Proven experience in a security-related role, preferably in a nuclear or highly regulated industry.
3. Comprehensive understanding of security protocols, procedures, and laws relating to the protection of critical infrastructure.
4. Strong observational skills with the ability to detect and assess potential security risks quickly and accurately.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues, visitors, and law enforcement personnel.
6. Proficient in the use of security equipment and surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
7. Physical fitness and the ability to perform security duties, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting heavy objects if necessary.
8. Demonstrated ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, making quick decisions while adhering to established guidelines.
9. Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to investigate incidents, collect evidence, and identify appropriate action.
10. Knowledge of emergency response procedures, first aid, and CPR is advantageous.
11. Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
